The Garchen Foundation

Love and compassion is the essence of all practice. If we really practice this, all other practices are included
Garchen Rinpoche

The Garchen Foundation was founded in 2007 in Munich, Germany, with the aim to make a contribution to the continuity of the Tibetan Buddhist religion, philosophy and literature. In particular, The Garchen Foundation is dedicated to the continuity of the Drikung Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

The Garchen Foundation has its statutory headquarters in Munich, Germany. The operative basis is in D-29640 Schneverdingen, Reimerdinger Str. 18. It was officially recognized by the government of Upper Bavaria as a non-profit public foundation under civil law.

The close connection of the Foundation with the Drikung Kagyu tradition is evident in its name, which goes back to His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche, one of the most revered masters of the Drikung Kagyu tradition. Since many years, Garchen Rinpoche disseminates the authentic Buddhist teachings on numerous trips around the world. Out of respect for this Buddhist master, the Foundation adopted his name in its title. The Garchen Foundation owes many inspirations and visions for its work both to His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang, the supreme head of the Drikung Kagyu tradition, and to Garchen Rinpoche and to other masters of the lineage
